How does one steal an offbeat storybook vacation, get to stay in the 'lap of nature', in the midst of a 20 acre forested estate, surrounded by undulating valleys and hills, romanced by flaring sunset skies yet get all the at-home comforts? How??
One chances upon the Parkwoods Forest Retreat (near the popular hill station of Shimla in Himachal) or is perhaps lucky enough to come here by design.
This place offers bamboo cottages with thatched roofs contributing to the rustic ambience of the retreat. For a more forested ambience and a whiff of adventure, many prefer the swiss tents. All the units have heating in winters, attached bathrooms with modern facilities, running hot and cold water and private sit-outs. In this forest resort, besides the sunrays filtering through the pines, the ground being bathed in soft moonlight at night, the guests also have the comfort of proper electricity - the Edison kind !.
The tents / cottages do not have air-conditioners, telephones, intercoms, TVs.
An excellent offbeat option against a resort in Shimla or a Shimla hotel, with a difference.

A 12'x12' area houses a full sized double bed with proper bedding and comforters, table lamps and clothes hangers. Heaters keep one warm in the winters.		 Sitting Area of the Bamboo Cottage.

Attached bathrooms (6'x12') have tiled floors, wash basin, western style flush toilets and a separate bathing area with running hot / cold water and shower stall.

Each deluxe tent is independent with
a private sit-out. Roll up mesh windows
offer an unabated view. Double walled insulated canvas walls and roof ensure complete protection from wind and rain.

Furnished similar to the bamboo cottage, the 12'x12' area has a full sized double bed with mattresses and quilts or blankets as required. Bed lamps, clothes hangers, chairs and table in the sitting area make up the essentials. Heaters are provided for additional warmth in winters.

LASTING IMPRESSIONS !
~ Hi, It was "AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE" to say the least ! We could never imagine we would go to sleep amidst crickets chirping, hearing dew falling on the grass outside !!! The idea of a bamboo hut and a bamboo loo is absolutely out of this world ! My son really enjoyed himself on the swings and slides. It was the closest we could go to Nature and spend so much time in its lap. We really came back completely energised and rejuvenated. We are looking forward to visit it again. Thanx for all your efforts and suggestions!!!
